Some brokerage companies expect to be more active, lay out film and television production business to achieve more efficient recruitment, and also move towards the combination of brokerage and production. In the era when the annual output of TV dramas is not high and the pace of the industry is not fast, this model is convenient for intentional masters to polish their works carefully. The share of costume dramas has been tightened, and many puppet factories have been hit. Huanrui is the first to bear the brunt. The big dramas that have been filmed have encountered a backlog (such as Chang ‘an in the World), and a large number of IPs are about to expire, so they can only continue to open new dramas and attract new people.
"Coloured Glass" counterattacked and won the popularity of Cheng Yi, so that "Chang ‘an Nuo" was broadcast, and Cheng Yi has been non-stop filming Huanrui’s new drama "Wake Up from Chang ‘an", with Yuxi Zhang as the heroine and the old supporting roles in "Coloured Glass". Batch after batch of "inner drama" with homogeneous content but worrying quality is tantamount to squeezing aura and wasting youth for the actors themselves. It is not uncommon for people to leave in recent years, and it cannot be blamed on the artist’s active mind.
Making, Brokering and Unbinding are healthier?
In the final analysis, the idyllic era is gone forever, and companies and artists are facing more and more risks. If you don’t advance, you will retreat. There are more and more factors affecting resource allocation, such as commercial value and platform orientation, and the casting is not decided by the production company. It is difficult for the two business lines of production and brokerage to maintain the ideal state of complementing each other, but it is easy to drag each other down.
For the production company, while maintaining its specific advantages, it may be a way to adjust the content direction according to the market and make multiple attempts to open up multiple product lines, so as to avoid putting all the eggs in the same basket and at the same time match different artists with more suitable resources.
A special case is the midday sun. At the beginning of its establishment, in 2015 and 2016, the company triumphed with a number of excellent dramas, and its artists also soared in value. However, it also makes it difficult for the midday sun to control the proportion of film payment in the investment, and it is necessary to lower the price of people if they do not wronged the production.
At that time, Jin Dong and Wang Kai, under the banner of Noon, were representatives of atypical traffic. Both actors were trained and debuted for many years, and appeared in many serious dramas. However, in the new media era, they gained high popularity among young audiences with their hot dramas. The two men untied their ties to avoid suspicion and tore each other’s faces with fans, no less than today’s young idols.
However, the midday sun coming out from within the system has obviously not adapted to this set of gameplay. In the eyes of fans, the company can’t provide mature packaging and public relations for artists, and the resource allocation is eccentric. Finally, in September 2017, Noon Sunshine announced the cancellation of the artist brokerage section and will focus on content production in the future. This move was praised by the outside world as "a strong man broke his wrist."
Since then, Noon Sunshine has set up a joint venture with Jin Dong, Wang Kai, Tamia Liu and other stars to jointly invest in film and television projects, and continue to cooperate with stars in the form of capital linkage. At the same time, the noon drama began to attract more and more star actors outside the noon cast, such as Yao Chen, Guo Jingfei, Qin Hao, Wan Qian, Lei Jiayin, Yolanda, etc., and the content gained more possibilities.
The ebb and flow of the tide, whether artists, teams or companies, ultimately depends on their works to settle down and seek a way out. It is a healthier way to let resources flow by making and brokerage different.
